Siletz Valley School is seeking talented and skillful educators passionate about teaching kids and helping them to learn. Siletz Valley Charter School (SVS) is seeking a Full-time (1.0 FTE) Middle School ELA Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.

 

SUMMARY:

The job of “Language Arts Teacher must make knowledge accessible to students in accordance to their age and capability of learning.

• Responsible for providing written support and/or conveying information in an accountable capacity to the Principal as the employer and Executive Director as needed.
• Ensures effective site operations, instructional delivery, assessment, activities, safety, student behavior, and peripheral responsibilities/programs for a positive and efficient school environment.
• Ensures objectives of programs and services are achieved within budget.
• This position represents the school within the school community for the purpose of maintaining ongoing student support for overall objectives, including but not limited to addressing situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the students and the school.
• Plans for and guides the learning process to help students achieve objectives required within the yearly studies.
• Maintains a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning giving the students every opportunity to improve their cognitive capabilities.
• Implements useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures that can help determine how each student is improving using effective instructional methods and materials that have been directed by administration.

Classroom Instruction:

• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, school policies, and administrative regulations.
• Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Assign lessons and correct homework.
• Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
• Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.
• Prepare for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
• Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
• Organize and label materials, and display students’ work.
• Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from such activities.
• Store, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.

Students:

• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
• Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations and utilize project and service learning in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, or social studies.
• Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
• Meeting with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
• Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests.
• Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
• Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injury and damage.
• Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
• Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
• Provide disabled students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
• Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress.
• Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
• Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
• Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.
• Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve
• Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
• Attend staff meetings, and serve on staff committees as required.
• Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Education required: B.A./S.
• Appropriate Oregon Teacher Certification for applied position. Registered with Teachers Standard Practices Commission. Language Arts and Social Studies endorsements preferred.
• Prior related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in a school setting.
• Skills to manage personnel and services, communicate effectively, problem solve.
• Knowledge, experience and demonstrated action of best practices in curriculum, instruction, business, accounting practices, education code and school policies and philosophies.
• Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines, communicate with persons with varied cultural and educational backgrounds, communicate in oral and written form.
• Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation
• First Aid, CPR, AED and Bloodborne certification required upon employment
• Code of Conduct and Ethics Agreement signatory upon employment.
• Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, and Google.

Specific start date and salary may be subject to change upon approval of the 2025-2026 school calendar.

• Posted salary based on a 185 day contract.
