PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to provide students with a high-quality educational experience in woodworking and carpentry. The CTE Woodshop Teacher develops and delivers practical, standards-aligned instruction that prepares students for careers in the skilled trades while maintaining a safe learning environment in compliance with OSHA regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are examples of duties. However, any one position may not cover all duties listed; examples may not cover all duties an employee is expected to perform; and other duties may be assigned.
- Develops and implements engaging lesson plans aligned with Oregon educational standards that meet the practical and academic needs of students in woodworking, construction and carpentry.
- Maintains a safe, organized, and well-equipped classroom and shop environment conducive to hands-on learning.
- Assesses student progress through regular evaluations, projects, and skill demonstrations; provides timely and constructive feedback.
- Collaborates with other educators, CTE coordinators, and administration to enhance curriculum and share best practices.
- Ensures all shop activities and equipment usage comply with OSHA regulations and district safety standards.
- Stays current on industry trends, advancements, and best practices in woodworking, construction, and carpentry to provide relevant, up-to-date instruction.
- Manages classroom materials, tools, and equipment inventory; coordinates repair or replacement as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Education and/or Experience: Valid Oregon Teaching License with CTE endorsement in woodworking, carpentry, or a related trade; or a combination of education and industry experience sufficient to obtain an alternative authorization. Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of carpentry and woodworking techniques, tools, and materials.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write lesson plans, reports, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with students of varying skill levels, parents, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply measurement, geometry, and mathematical reasoning in practical construction and woodworking contexts. Ability to instruct students in job-site math applications.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems, troubleshoot shop-related challenges, and deal with a variety of situations in a classroom and shop environment. Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or blueprint form.
- Safety Knowledge: Thorough familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards as applied in an educational shop setting. Ability to enforce safe practices and maintain a culture of safety at all times.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Oregon Teaching License or eligibility for alternative licensure. Valid Oregon driver’s license. Other certificates as determined by SVS.
- Interpersonal Skills: Works well with students, staff, and the community. Ability to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation. Focuses on student growth; maintains confidentiality; listens effectively; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others’ ideas.

- Required to talk, hear, and listen in classroom and shop environments, including over equipment noise.
- Frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl to demonstrate techniques and supervise shop work.
- Required to use hands, fingers, and arms to handle, operate, and demonstrate woodworking tools and equipment.
- Must regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision for safe supervision of shop activities.
